How many sessions will I need?

Whilst there is no simple answer to this question, the goal is always "as few as possible".

It is usually a good idea to have two or three sessions and then review the progress you have made towards achieving your goal/s. You then decide whether the remainder of your journey is best undertaken on your own, or whether some further few sessions would be helpful. The goal of counselling is to empower you to take charge of your own life. You have many resources within you (strengths, skills, past learnings and successes,) – our work together is about helping you to tap into these resources (and sometimes adding to your repertoire of skills).

What are Merrilly's business hours?

Merrilly offers appointments from 10am on Wednesdays & Fridays.

The latest appointment time available is 5:30pm. This time tends to be booked well in advance, and so new clients are advised that it is most likely they will be offered a session time during business hours.

How do I pay for sessions?

Payments can be made by EFT or cash. (Payments can also be made by credit card. The practice management program that Merrilly uses charges clients reasonably high fees for processing credit card payments, and so most clients choose to pay by EFT.)

Rebates are applicable, if you are covered for psychology services with a private health fund.

If you have been referred by your GP with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, a Medicare rebate can be claimed.

Payment in full is required on the day of service.

Is there a cancellation policy?

A Cancellation fee of $60 will be charged if less than 24 hours is given. The established fee will be charged for non-attendance where less than 12 hours or no notice has been given.
(These charges are not covered by private health fund rebates.)

Where a GP has referred a patient and prepared a Mental Health Treatment Plan, the psychologist is required to provide the GP with a brief report once the client has reached 6 sessions (or earlier, if less than 6 sessions are needed). A further 4 to 6 sessions may then be approved.

What is the current wait time for a first appointment?

Merrilly is not currently taking on new clients.
